How to Shrink Hemorrhoids (Hemroids) - Natural Versus FDA Remedies

Nearly 50% of people will suffer from hemorrhoids (hemroids) by age 50. Anyone can be affected, resulting in pain, embarrassment, and changes in lifestyle.

Many pregnant women get hemorrhoids either during pregnancy or after childbirth. Many have spent hundreds, even thousands of dollars on creams, ointments, and the like, only to be disappointed with the results. When searching for a remedy, is a natural cure for hemorrhoids better than one approved by the FDA(Food and Drug Administration)? A brief discussion of both avenues may do you some good in finding a cure for your hemorrhoids.

Natural Remedies:

The battle has been raging for decades over whether FDA approved remedies are better than more natural cures. And the answer isn't a simple one to answer. Many believe that because herbs are natural that they are safer than man-made drugs. This is not necessarily the case. Herbs are medicines, and some have been known to cause heart damage and liver failure. Many have been helped by such cures, however, many of these are not regulated by the government, nor supported by laboratory testing, and the standards used in production can possibly be unreliable. However, if you do decide on trying a natural cure, herb, or supplement, here are some things to keep in mind.

#1) Consult your doctor before you begin taking any herbs. This will ensure that the proper dosage is taken and that interactions with other medications are avoided. Especially if you are pregnant do you want to follow this advice, to avoid harm to the unborn child.

#2) Research any herb or supplement you plan to use. Properly identify each herb before you buy or use it - herbs are not always correctly labeled.

#3) Give yourself adequate time to adjust to an herb before beginning to use another, at least two weeks time.

#4) Begin taking any new remedy at half the recommended dose. This enables you to track any allergies or other adverse reactions. Stop taking any herb or supplement if you experience any adverse reactions such as nausea, headaches, diarrhea or an upset stomach.

#5) Do not exceed the recommended dosages of any herbal remedy. Even though herbs are natural, they contain powerful chemical compounds that can be as potent as prescription drugs. These can be harmful, even toxic, when taken in large amounts over long periods.

FDA Approved:

What does that mean? According to the FDA it means that the risks are outweighed by the benefits for the indication and under the conditions that are in the label. Admittedly, that leaves much room for error as can be seen by the number of medications that are pulled off of the shelves because of adverse side effects. However, many experts have faith in the system that has been put in place, citing that the most up-to-date scientific knowledge and tools are applied to the data received from the various drug companies. Others are more wary because after all drugs are big business. Regardless, it has to be kept in mind that all drugs have risks, there is no such thing as a totally safe drug. The same precautions taken for natural cures can also be applied to the use of FDA approved medications.

So, where does that leave one who is looking for a cure, in this case for hemroids (hemorrhoids)?

What if there were a treatment that was both natural and FDA approved?

What if such a treatment had been proven to work for many without the use of potentially dangerous herbs, ointments, or medications? There is such a treatment!
