Hemorrhoids are rectal veins that have become prolapsed and inflamed. Hemorrhoids form from a group of veins in the rectum known as the hemorrhoidal plexus. This is the reason they are called hemorrhoids. There are two groups of veins: internal veins and external veins.
There are also two types of hemorrhoids and they are classified according to there location. When the internal veins are the problem then they are classified as internal hemorrhoids . When the external veins are the ones affected then they are classified as external hemorrhoids.
The symptoms vary slightly for the two different types of hemorrhoids. Internal hemorrhoids are usually silent. They manifest themselves mainly as bleeding.
People with internal hemorrhoids usually don't manifest any symptoms. But they may be shocked when they see the presence of blood in the stool. Sometimes large amounts of bright red blood is seen but many times just a streak of blood is seen on the stool.
Warning: This can be a symptom of cancer also, so please consult your doctor for a complete evaluation.
Signs and Symptoms present mostly in the external form of hemorrhoids are:
Bleeding after bowel movement or noticed while wiping the anal area
Pain and swelling to the point where it can make walking difficult
Itching and irritation around the anal area
Hemorrhoids protruding from your anus
A Sensitive and painful lump near your anus
Fecal Leakage
What Causes Hemorrhoids?
Life-style factors are usually a causative factor in the development of hemorrhoids. Some of these are:
1. Low amounts of fiber in the diet
2. Straining during a bowel movement
3. Obesity
4. Constipation
5. Lack of Exercise
But the thing is, you can prevent and improve hemorrhoids by modifying these life-style factors but many times you cannot correct them completely after they have developed. These measures are necessary to prevent hemorrhoids and improve them but will not cure them completely. If you are suffering from hemorrhoids you need to modify these factors but you also need extra help to get rid of hemorrhoids completely.
Treatments vary in conventional medicine and also in the alternative medical field. There is a great variety of suppositories, creams and ointments in the market for the relief of hemorrhoids. But understand that these serve only for symptomatic relief. They do not give complete relief from hemorrhoids!
Surgery can sometimes cure hemorrhoids but most of the time two things happen. One that is very litle known is that even after surgery these Hemorrhoids can COME BACK! And number two is that unless you have good coverage the procedure can be very expensive.
Better and more permanent alternatives are needed that are not as drastic as surgery.
Hemorrhoids are a common disorder that has been growing at epidemic proportions. Understanding the cause and prevention can help you to resolve this problem and prevent complications.
